Tips to prepare for dust storms
Recently we are seeing a rise in the occurrence of dust storms in our cities. Smoke from factories and vehicles, dust and sand particles on the roads and several other pollutantd are suspended in the air that travels at a tremendous speed during a dust storm. This high speed dust can clog the airways causing infections and diseases in many especially high risk groups like children and the elderly.
Here are some tips to stay protected
- Cover your eyes and nose if you are outdoor during a dust storm. You can use a cloth if you don’t have a mask available with you.
- If you are suffering from asthma do not venture out in the event of a dust storm as you would almost certainly have an asthma attack.
- Stuff rags under your doors to block any sand or dust from coming inside.
- Don’t wear contact lenses as the dust may cause irritation.
- Avoid doing exercises as it will increase your breathing rate, pushing more dust into your airways.
